Shot in the Amazon Basin of Brazil, Paula Gaitan's debut feature delves into the myth creation of the Kamaiurá tribe of the upper Xingu. Blurring the lines between magic and life, and transcending the confines of ethnographic filmmaking, this film-poem combines rituals, political colonialism, rock music, daily activities, and even Méliès’ Voyage dans la lune extracts. Gaitán, through a formidable use of montage, reflects on the Brazilian collective identity using a dialectical approach, showcasing the significant impact of Cinema Novo on her work.
